April 2-3, 2010

Kitty Hawk Kites kicks off spring the with annual "Fly Into Spring and Easter Eggstravaganza" event! This annual spring event will be held during National Kite Month, April, on the 2nd and 3rd, from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Jockey's Ridge State Park, home to the largest living sand dune on the east coast, will host the kite festival, and the Kitty Hawk Kites store in Nags Head will host the Easter Egg Hunt! With fresh spring air and the famous Outer Banks wind, participants won't want to miss the first event of 2010!

The Battle Royal is a two-day kayak fishing tournament that opens for fishing all sound and ocean waters along the Outer Banks from Carova to Ocracoke -- more than 100 miles of shoreline. Participants will have 33 hours nonstop to fish as long and as hard as they can and where they want on the Outer Banks.

28th Annual Rogallo Kite Festival - Jockey's Ridge State Park (mp 12.5), Nags Head. The Rogallo Kite festival, presented by Kitty Hawk Kites, will continue honoring Francis M. Rogallo, NASA scientist and inventor of the Flexible Wing, who just passed away in September of 2009. This two day festival will feature our signature kite flying on the dunes of Jockey's ridge as well as nightly entertainment celebrating the history of kiting. Spectators can see huge kites that will take the shape of sea animals, as well as other large specialty kites flown throughtout the event. Throughout the two day festival, there will be exhibitions and demonstrations including stunt and power kite lessons, free children's games and activities, and much more! Outer Banks Sandsculpture Festival - A professional sandsculpture company will be on hand to sculpture a huge sand creation. Kitty Hawk Sports, Peace Frogs, Panama Jack Suncreen, OBX, and Outer Banks Hospital are sponsors. There will be fun events, raffles, and entertainment all day long at Kitty Hawk Sports at Jockey's Ridge Crossing shopping center across from Jockey's Ridge MP 12 1/2 in Nags Head, 252-441-6800. Wright Brother’s Memorial (mp 8), Kill Devil Hills, presented by Kitty Hawk Kites. This festival is enjoyed by all ages with a spectacular kite show put on by Larger than Life Kites. Come see a large sea animal kites and our deltas and parafoils dance in the air during this jaw dropping event. There will also be stunt kite demos, games, kids kite making and contests. Kitty Hawk Kites (mp 12.5), Nags Head. You won’t want to miss this big outdoor summer bash with a homegrown, backyard feel. The festival features family entertainment, seed spitting contests, a dunk tank, huge inflatables (moon bounces, obstacle course, and others), and, of course, watermelons! All proceeds will be donated to the local Wright Flight Foundation--a non profit which helps local 5th graders master goal-setting skills and excel (or improve) academically with the reward of flight. The 11th Annual Kitty Hawk Kites Ocean Games and Surf Kayak Competition – Ramada Plaza (mile post 9.5), Kill Devil Hills. This is some of the most fun you can have at the beach! Spectators can enjoy a surf kayak competition, catching the finish of a 3 mile kayak race, and can participate in sandcastle competition , kite and toy demonstrations, and trial runs in the newest kayaks and paddleboards offered! Wright Brothers Memorial (mp 8), Kill Devil Hills, presented by Kitty Hawk Kites. This competitive fly is on the Eastern League Circuit for sport kite flying and is also sanctioned by the American Kiting Association. Throughout the weekend non-competitors can enjoy workshops, demonstrations and kite making for kids. The highlights of this event include graceful kite ballet competitions set to music, and fast paced team flying that blends both kite control and speed.
